Not quite.. stayed tuned to hear some helpful tips on finding the right puppy for you and your family to ensure you all have a long happy life together!

Choose an ANKC Registered Breeder!

Historically, for hundreds of years Man has been carefully and selectively breeding dogs for ultimately one purpose - Domestication. Whether it be the Every one of these breeds has been developed for a specific purpose - whether it be working ability, size, temperament or agility. In short, there is a pure bred, pedigreed, registered dog that will suit every lifestyle whether as a treasured family member or working companion.

If you wish to buy a puppy I implore you seek a breeder that is currently registered with the Australian National Kennel Council and their state specific governing body or Canine Control Council Queensland for us here in Brisbane! I have found with the recent introduction of BIN numbers in QLD (Breeder Identification Number), this seems to have people more confused than ever about what classifies a "registered" dog breeder.

Outlined below are ALL required registrations and memberships to be considered a Registered Purebred Dog Breeder..

1. Canine Control Council Queensland or Dogs QLD membership

  • Registration as a purebred dog breeder and membership with your state specific dog governing body goes hand in hand - Can't have one without the other!

  • This is a minimum requirement in order to show, breed or compete in official competitive dog sports such as obedience and agility.

  • Dogs QLD's role is to be the governing body for the state in accordance with the National Canine Body; regulate and promote the development and breeding of healthy purebred dogs throughout the State; promote and encourage the recreation and competition of its members; promote and encourage the training of ALL dogs throughout the State!

  • Must be a current member of their state specific Canine Control Council or Dogs QLD for short here in Queensland!

  • Must have held membership with Dogs QLD for a minimum of 1year as a prerequisite to sit the Breeders Exam and apply for a Breeders Prefix (E.g. Absoluut!)

  • Must pass the Breeders exam

  • Must pay upfront and yearly fees to maintain their registration as an ANKC Breeder

  • Must Comply with the Code of Ethics of Dogs Queensland to breed and register purebred dogs.

3. BIN or Breeder Identification Number

  • Requirement by the QLD government for ANY persons breeding any dogs (ANKC Registered breeders, non-registered purebred breeders, crossbreds, designer breeders etc.)

  • Takes less than 5minutes to obtain online

  • No payments to register

  • No yearly fees

  • No exams required

  • No information about responsible dog breeding provided on their website where you apply

  • Simply keeps a record of dogs bred by and the ownership of dogs anyone in QLD

Adopt! Don't shop.. from backyard breeders!

If breed specific traits are not on your wish list, why not consider adoption! Choosing to adopt can be both a challenging and rewarding experience. Look for a temperament, energy level and size that best fits you and/or your family then look at colour and style of dog. This gives you the best chance at taking home a dog you will be happy to live with and the dogs best chance at "going home" for the last time.

Consider Animal Welfare League or other smaller rescues first:

Purebred Breeding Shopping Tips!

You have done your research, know your breed of interest and what it takes to care for one. Buy the first puppy you are offered! .....no. Even amongst the ANKC regesitered not all breeders hold themselves to the same standard. A few key points will help you easily weed through the cute puppy pictures to find the well-bred, socialized dog youve been searching for..

  • Ask to meet the parents, at the very least the mother should be availble for your veiwing (ignore if she's a little scruffy, raising babies is hard work). She should be otherwise healthy and bright, of good temperament and not been bred more than 4 times without special vet certification. Dad may be off-site or in another state, but if not meet and assess his temperament as well. If you are happy with the temperaments of the parents, chances are you will be happy with your puppy.

  • Ask to see where the puppies were raised, environment should be relatively clean, puppies are serial mess makers but clean nonetheless, clear of random debris and located somewhere they would have been exposed to consistent human contact.

  • Ask for your puppys worming history and vet check and vaccination certificate. All ANKC puppies should be wormed on a regular schedule at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12weeks of age before moving to monthly/3monthly worming.

  • Puppies should have been socialized to enjoy human company, puppies that run away, hide or wont willingly approach human contact cannot be sure to have sound confident temperaments.

Applying for an Absoluut Puppy Tips!

I raise my babies in the home from their first breath to the heartbreaking goodbyes at 8-10weeks. I love every Aussie I breed as if it were my own and offer LIFETIME support. No Absoluut Aussie will ever see the inside of the RSPCA or any other shelter. I understand circumstances change and if for any reason you can no longer be the home for your Absoluut Aussie, they will return to their first home with me for training and temperament proofing before re-homing. I have put great effort into the socialization and training of my Aussies and primarily consider homes prepared to be equally as active and involved in their training as me. Aussies although beautiful are not lawn ornaments, they are a highly intelligent and social breed. They need training and they WANT to be with you. All my puppies commence toilet and crate training prior to leaving to ease the transition home (this is only basic training, there will still be accidents). And I recommend that all Absoluut aussies continue crate training for the duration of their life.

I do have a waiting list which is prioritized by first come first served and suitability to available dogs and puppies. Tips for applying:

  • Tell me about yourself! Lifestyle, family members, other pets, activity level, hobbies.

  • Tell me about your yard, fence type, height, visible from the road etc.

  • What kind of lifestyle do you plan to offer your puppy.

  • Preferences of energy level, colour, tail.
